Tool Of The Week: Sling Review

We are always on the lookout for other great tools that can help your business or organization. Today we’ll be talking about Sling - a free employee scheduling and communication app.

Sling’s Features

If your business uses the tried-and-true, old-school methods to schedule shifts (like spreadsheets or calculating by hand), then Sling is for you. If an employee calls in sick and you have to find the work schedule see who's available and call each person from that list until you can find someone willing to come in, then Sling is for you too.

It simplifies and automates the process of shift scheduling and employee time management  while saving your valuable time and money - and that’s just a tiny part of what Sling can do to help you manage and organize your business. Let’s take a look at what Sling has to offer and how it actually works.

Scheduling

You can set up shift schedules and stay up-to-date with time off, availability, and shift trade requests. You’ll get notified of overlapping shifts or double-booking, eliminating conflicts.

Time Tracking

You can also track employee hours, approve timesheets, and export data for payroll, all of which is made especially easy with the Time Clock feature. Employees can clock in and out with their phones, and you can even enable geofencing and prevent early clock-ins.

Labor Cost Calculations

One of the more recent additions to the wide array of Sling features, labor cost calculation allows you to your spendings and get a clearer picture of where your money goes. For example, you can set wages per employee/position and instantly see how much each shift costs you.

Other Sling Features

Here are some other Sling features worth noting.

Tasks

Tasks are a helpful feature - you can make your own to-do list or assign tasks to employees, individually or as a group. You can provide as much information about the task as you want, including pictures. You can also set due dates, send reminders, and keep track of their progress.

Messages

Sling improves internal communication with the messages feature that’s just like texting but saves you the trouble of going through your phone’s contact list. You can message your team individually or as a group, and you can send work files, and funny photos or videos.

Newsfeed

Sling helps create company culture with a small-scale social media channel. You can set up different pages for different purposes and anyone can share content, displayed in a newsfeed style. This keeps everyone updated and brings your team together.

Bottom Line

Overall, Sling is an awesome tool that can seriously streamline your business processes and help you manage your staff more efficiently, especially if they work in shifts and/or remotely.

Sling starts with a free plan that includes all the basics, and then there’s a Premium plan that’s only $1.75/month. They also offer custom enterprise solutions.

So, if you want a better way to manage employee shifts, check out Sling. And remember, if you're looking for free CRM, project management, or collaboration tools, be sure to try Bitrix24.
