  • Robbie Kellman Baxter  - the author of The Membership Economy, brings over twenty years of strategy consulting and marketing expertise to Peninsula Strategies. Her clients have included start-ups and mid-sized venture-backed companies as well as industry leaders such as Netflix, Yahoo!, Oracle and eBay. Over the past ten plus years, Peninsula Strategies has advised nearly one hundred organizations on growth strategy.

In your book   The Membership Economy : Find Your Super Users, Master the Forever Transaction, and Build Recurring Revenue  you coined the term “membership economy”. Can you please explain the term to our readers?

The Membership Economy is a term I coined to describe a massive trend I was seeing. Organizations were moving away from anonymous transactions and toward known and ongoing relationships with their customers or members. In addition, the trend is often characterized by a move from ownership to access, from one-time payment to recurring automated payments and by a more open communication, both between the organization and the member and among the members themselves, under the umbrella of the organization. I first started thinking about this idea several years ago when I was consulting at Netflix, and fell in love with their business model. I loved how they were so focused on their mission, and yet willing to evolve delivery—moving from three DVDs out at a time to streaming to contracting for their own content.

  • Bitrix24 is a solution for business communications and collaboration introduced for organizations of any size. The system unites tools classically belonging to corporate intranets with CRM, project management and social collaboration elements to form an optimal virtual work platform. Bitrix24 can be used as an online service (Cloud version, SaaS) and as a ‘box’ product (Self-hosted version, i.e. installed on your own server). Depending on your  business nature, company size, and requirements for an intranet solution, you can choose between the flexible Cloud subscription plans, or develop a custom intranet project using the Self-hosted version.

    Bitrix24 Cloud version
Cloud technologies are very popular at the moment, they provide flexible data management, and 24/7 access from anywhere where you can get connected to the Internet. Bitrix24 Cloud version could be an optimal solution if you have 1-100 employees. Selected commercial subscriptions provide an unlimited number of user accounts for both the intranet (employees and management) and the extranet (partners and clients). If you eventually need a higher level of product customization, corporate branding and/or integration with other enterprise software, you can migrate your Bitrix24 Cloud account to the Self-Hosted version at any point.

    Bitrix24 Self-hosted version
There are several instances when on premise Bitrix24 editions have to be used instead of cloud - when law requires that data has to be stored in a specific location, when you need source code access, when you need Bitrix24 tools that aren't available in cloud or when you don't want to use cloud services due to internal policies.  Feature-wise, the Self-hosted version includes more tools and modules compared to the Cloud version.

  • What The Olympic Games Can Teach About Project Management

    Yuliya Skorobogatova 15 August 2016
The Olympic Games is one of the most large-scaled international events in the history of mankind. Pierre de Coubertin, Founder of the Olympic Movement, once said “The Olympic Games are a pilgrimage to the past and an act of faith in the future.” This thought perfectly explains the universal appeal of the Olympics which attracts millions of spectators that, in turn, attract billions of investments.

If you look at the Olympics from a different perspective you will see that it is a giant project which has to be initiated, planned, executed and closed. Considering the scale, the history and the popularity of the Olympic games there are a couple of valuable lessons every project manager can learn from the greatest athletic competition of all times.

  • Emma Jones is a small business expert, author, and founder of small business network Enterprise Nation. In July 2016, Emma was appointed SME Representative for Crown Commercial Service.

Ms. Jones, you left accounting firm Arthur Andersen to start your first business. Could you talk about pros and cons of starting your business while still having a fulltime employment versus going all in and quitting the job in order to become your own boss.

I started both my businesses by 'Working 5 to 9' which is the term we use to describe holding onto the day job and building a business at nights and weekends. In my view, it's the best way to start! You give yourself time to build confidence and cash-flow in the business. It's also actually good for the day job as you pick up new and entrepreneurial skills from which your employer will benefit!

  • Three Strategies To Increase Sales Revenue Growth

    Yuliya Skorobogatova 3 August 2016

The primary goal of any business is increasing the revenue. Regardless all the complexity of the business world, there are only 4 basic ways to maximize your revenue. • If you are a Bitrix24 Standard or Professional user, you now have access to multiple pipelines and sales funnels. Why is this important? Suppose, you run a car dealership. This means that you have multiple profit centers – you sell cars, parts, insurance, accept trade-ins and do repairs – to name a few.

The problem is that the sales process for new or used cars is totally different than one for selling parts or insurance. Setting up a test drive is an important stage for selling or leasing a car, but it’s simply not applicable to insurance sales or oil changes, which don’t involve multiple sale stages. Even when you sell a single product, upselling and renewals are usually treated as different pipelines.

That’s why multiple pipelines and sales funnels are so handy. If you are using Free or Plus plans, first go to Subscription and click 'Upgrade' in order to activate 30 Day Bitrix24 Professional trial. Then go to CRM Settings or Deals and add a new Pipeline.

  • Don’t Try To Outsmart Google. SEO For Dummies

    Yuliya Skorobogatova 26 July 2016
Do you run a website or do you plan to have one? Whether it is e-commerce, blog or informational website, your primary goal is to attract as many targeted visitors as possible. Organic search is one of the main sources of traffic and it is comparatively free. Unfortunately, if the search engines (including Google, Yahoo and Bing) don’t consider your website authoritative or relevant enough, you won’t get a chance to be seen in a search engine results page and consequently don’t get any search engine traffic. Our article will cover the most useful and easy to implement things you should know about SEO.

    Updated Nov 22, 2017

When migrating to Bitrix24, one of the long-standing problems has been how to import existing tasks from your old system. The answer up to now has generally been manual input. MAKE Interactive has developed an app for importing tasks en masse to your new Bitrix24 intranet, from a simple CSV file. The method works for both cloud-based and self-hosted Bitrix24 intranets.

Just install the app from the Applications section of your menu (the Bitrix24 Marketplace)

A sample CSV file with column headings is available for download in the app description. A few notes about this:

    1.     The usual mandatory fields must be completed (Creator, Responsible, etc.). Others can be left blank.

    2.     Flexible deadline, Time Tracking, Approval before Closing, and Include in Efficiency Report should have Y/N values.

    3.     Import supports subtasks and checklists. The subtasks need to be indicated in the CSV carefully:  The number of the parent task's ROW in the CSV should be listed in the given column.  See the video for further explanation.

    4.     Workgroup should be the Workgroup ID number

    5.     Creator, Responsible, Participants, and Observers should be filled in with the USER ID numbers of these users from your Bitrix24 portal.

    a.     Since Bitrix24 does support mass re-assignment from any user’s task list, reassignment of tasks after import is not a big problem, it is just an extra step.

MAKE Interactive has extensive knowledge of the Bitrix24 system and is a prolific maker of apps and modules for Bitrix24. For more information about mass import of tasks or any of our other services, contact us at

  • New E-Mail Integration Options For Bitrix24 CRM

    Yuliya Skorobogatova 15 July 2016
Now every employee can link their mailbox to CRM. The system will collect all inbound and outbound messages no matter whether you work with emails inside CRM or in the mailbox interface. Leads will be created from all incoming emails. If the message is received from the email address already known by the system, it will be linked as an activity to the proper CRM entity (contacts, companies, leads, deals). Outbound emails will also become activities linked to CRM entities.
  • The most recent update was about CRM – new website forms, open channels for social networks and online payments. This time it’s all about tasks. If you log into your Bitrix24 account, you’ll see that you can now add custom fields to tasks, create tasks from posts or comments and build workload charts.

    1.     Post to task

Activity stream is great for discussing ideas but when it’s time to act you need to switch to tasks. Now you can convert any post or comment to a task. Simply click ‘More’ and select Create task. The contents of the post/comment will be automatically inserted into the newly created task. You do remember that you can already create tasks from email, don't you?

    2.     Employee workload charts

You loved Bitrix24 employee workload planning but wanted to have Gantt-like employee involvement charts for easier workload management. Done! The chart can be build for individual employees, departments or the entire company, provided you have the appropriate access rights.

    3.     Custom fields for tasks

Very few project management tools give you custom fields for tasks. In Bitrix24 this option is now available starting with Bitrix24 Standard plan. Simply click ‘Create new task’, scroll to the bottom and create a custom field. If you are an administrator, you can share the newly created task field with all employees and enable field dragging (see the gear icon next to Custom field).

Hurwitz research concentrates on disruptive technologies, such as Cloud, Big Data, Analytics, Social and Collaborative Business, Service Oriented Architecture and Web 2.0, Service Management, and Information Management.

Big data has been a buzz word for a couple of years already. How does this technology trend transform the business today?

Big data on its own does not have a tremendous value. I have seen many clients struggle and fail with big data projects. The reason for these struggles have been that the project was not tightly aligned with business challenges or opportunities – getting insights into your data is interesting, but when not tied to business objectives the value can be lost.

When Big Data is combined with data management, governance, and advanced analytics the business impact can be tremendous. I have seen companies unlock value insights from the data that they already have but are not analyzing. Take for instance a retailer – many have huge amounts of data on their products and customers however few are analyzing this to offer customized offers or anticipate the trends for next season. Some industries where we are seeing a huge impact on big data and analytics are in financial services, healthcare and oil and gas. The commonality between these industries is that small improvements based on data can lead to millions of dollars of revenue, massive savings or quite literally the lives of patients.
